Food security is a priority area of cooperation among the CIS member states. Within the framework of the CIS, joint actions are actively coordinated and efforts are pooled to stabilize and ensure the sustainable development of agroindustrial production and markets for agricultural products and food. A number of sectoral councils in the field of agriculture are also successfully operating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The key document in this area is the Concept for Improving Food Security of the CIS Member States<\/a>, adopted in 2010. It views food security as an integral part of the CIS member states economic security, a key factor in preserving their statehood and sovereignty, a crucial component of the life support system and demographic policy, and also a necessary condition for maintaining health, ensuring physical activity, longevity, and a high quality of life for the population of each state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The importance of ensuring food security for the CIS is evidenced by the declaration of a corresponding thematic Year in 2011<\/a>. During that period, a wide range of tasks, related to improving the efficiency of production in the agricultural sector, strengthening the material and technical base of agricultural production and the processing industry, was addressed. The scientific and practical achievements<\/a> obtained during the year formed the basis for further plans and efforts to improve food security across the Commonwealth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Over the past five years the following documents have been prepared and adopted:<\/p>\n\n\n\n — The Concept for the Development of Agricultural Sciences and Scientific Support for the CIS Agro Industrial Complex<\/a>;<\/p>\n\n\n\n — The Concept for Cooperation among the Member States of the Commonwealth of Independent States in the Field of Agricultural Engineering and the Plan of Priority Measures for Its Implementation<\/a>;<\/p>\n\n\n\n — The Set of Measures to Prevent the Development of Locust Pests in the CIS Member States for the Period up to 2026<\/a>;<\/p>\n\n\n\n — The Plan of Key Measures for the Implementation of the Concept for the Development of Agricultural Sciences and Scientific Support for the Agroindustrial Complex of the CIS<\/a>;<\/p>\n\n\n\n
